It was a summer ice cream job that brought Kristen Adams and her husband, Nate Minnis together. In 2004, Kristen, originally of Bartlett, was training for her summer job at Coldstone Creamery in Bloomingdale’s Stratford Square, when she met Nate, who was working as an operations manager. They dated throughout college and have been together since.
“We’ve known each other for so long,” Kristen said. It all felt natural when Nate proposed in October 2012 at Lowden State Park in Oregon, Ill., where he spent time growing up. Nate split his time between Oregon and Grayslake.
Kristen and Nate married at Cantigny Park in Wheaton. Nate, who played in a vintage baseball league out of Oregon, played numerous times at Cantigny and suggested the venue for their wedding.
“We decided we’d take a look at it and we fell in love with it,” Kristen said.
The couple was guaranteed the flowers would be in bloom for their May 4 wedding and Mother Nature didn’t let them down.
Kristen found her gown and the long flowing lavender bridesmaids dresses at The Crystal Bride in Geneva.
Because the couple enjoy wine, they named guest’s tables after the different types. And the wedding colors were light purple, green and silver.
Guests were encouraged to dress up and pose for a photo booth, which was provided along with fun props by Photo Booth Express of Chicago.
They honeymooned in Italy and Switzerland.
The wedding was exactly what they both had hoped for, Kristen said. “We’re ready and now looking forward to what our future holds,” she said.
Kristen is a clinical coordinator for Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Nate works in commercial real estate for Great Clips hair salon. They live in downtown Chicago.
